The Verizon Picture

November 3rd, 2007

You know when we started this site we used to be very purist about only accepting pictures on the site which were in fact sent in from a phone, you know a proper phone blog, a mobile blog.

In those early days we would even delete or chase down offenders that didn’t follow that basic unwritten law. Ok so now I’m putting my hands up and saying screw it, you know what, send us your pictures taken with any camera whatsoever, we do not care in fact we want YOUR pics however taken, send them!

I can predict before long we may run some competitions for the best particular shots etc, best type of this and that, but for now I wanted to celebrate a seriously fantastic shot taken by Humpa, (yes the guy who makes this site work).

Humpa is somewhat of a magpie, he collects stuff, and you can tell that just by looking at his collection of phones beautifully arranged in this delightful shot below.

But also look at the way his mind works, evident in the way he has positioned the phones, there is some quality patterns there!

So there we have it, we are celebrating all your pics, however they are, are you digging this pic as much as me, I’d love to hear.

The Phone Cam Gets Tagged

October 29th, 2007

Ok great news peeps we now have tags on The Phone Cam.

This is exciting as we now have a very cool way to organise our pictures and create further relationships between different users, and also make your content easier to find!

So what is tagging?

Tagging is a really simple concept, it is basically where you associate a variety of keywords to your pictures such as “beer” or “lobster” in fact as many as you like. The beauty of this is that each time a new tag is created we place your content on a unique page just for that content, so if you did in fact use “beer” and “lobster” there would then be two pages for each of those keywords with your tagged content showing, along with anyone else who has chosen those same keywords.

How do I get started tagging?

We’ve made this easy for you. On each picture page you will see an entry box where you can enter tags, you can add as many as you like, and a tag list will be created. That content will then appear on the tag page such as: http://www.thephonecam.com/tags/humpa

Note you can of course only tag your own content.

You will also find a main tag cloud page here:

http://www.thephonecam.com/tags

This is a weighted cloud which means the larger the words appear the more content is tagged under that name.

We hope you enjoy this new service, I’m a tag addict already!

The Phone Cam is G Rated

September 18th, 2007

We’ve recently made the decision to make thephonecam.com a G-Rated phone cam social network.

Whilst we’ve all had a blast enjoying some of the more “questionable” content, we’ve decided that by continuing to allow a “wild west” approach we are in fact limiting our ability to grow as an awesome and inclusive social network. It’s been a hard decision for us to arrive at, as we firmly believe in self-regulation and censorship. Having said that, as a business, we also understand the need to carefully brand the platform for the widest user base possible.

As of Monday 17 September 2007 thephonecam.com became completely g-rated, free of adult content. Now you can happily share your content with all your friends and family.

The good news for those people who do enjoy the more voyeuristic nature of phone cam blogging is that we have opened up a parallel portal for the over 18s only.

The content of the new portal will be in a “walled garden”, therefore members will have to sign-up stating they are in fact old enough to contribute and view.

In addition there will a variety of other relationship building tools empowering people to forge the relationships they seek on the internet.

Funky.
